PhD Education

One of DJF's superior aims is to contribute to the education of scientists and experts with a profound and extensive knowledge within agriculture, food and environment.

The faculty has established the graduate school, SAFE (Graduate School of Agriculture, Food and Environment), ensuring that the PhD education is accomplished at the absolutely highest international standard.

The official duration of the PhD study is 3 years (full-time study) and it is accomplished within one of the faculty's 7 departments:

As a PhD student you will be attached to ongoing research projects. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team that makes it possible to fully exploit the resources applied in the actual research projects. These may include access to laboratories, greenhouses, climate chambers, an experimental slaughter house as well as livestock buildings and farmland for experimental purposes.

The PhD education includes:

  • The accomplishment of independent research work under expert guidance (the PhD project)
  • The preparation of a PhD thesis based on the PhD project
  • Accomplishment of PhD courses (30 ECTS)
  • Participation in active research environments including stays at other research institutions, primarily abroad
  • The achievement of experience within the area of teaching or other forms of dissemination, preferably related directly to the student’s PhD project

A master degree in a relevant subject is required in order to be matriculated as a PhD student.
