Profile

Research objectives and focus

Our objective is to maintain and develop our expert knowledge in applied and generic research within prevention and control of plant diseases and pests and diseases and parasites of the honeybee. Our objective is furthermore to apply the research unit’s expert knowledge to form part of international research projects and to contribute to research-based advice to the authorities and education.

Research perspectives

The research unit’s research contributes to the prevention of problems with plant diseases and pests in Danish agriculture, to the collection of biological data that are used in prognosis and early warning programmes against plant pests and to the direct application of biological and microbiological control of plant pests as an alternative to pesticides. All of these are measures that contribute to the possibility of a continued reduction of the agricultural pesticide consumption. Our research also constitutes important elements in the concept of integrated pest management, which becomes increasingly more important in Denmark and the EU. The research unit’s activities become more and more focused on international collaboration, which ensures increasing funding through international sources such as the EU as well as exchange of knowledge and methods. The research unit is the national research centre regarding diseases in honeybees, and our perspective is to develop into an internationally recognised centre in this field.
