Professional and administrative experience

From 1998 to 2004 I have been part of the leadership in the Department of Animal Health and Welfare and gained valuable insight in the overall management of a research department. I had full responsibility for the daily leadership of the scientific (11) and technical staff (7) in my research unit. In addition to the staff we have had a number of veterinary, bachelor and master students from The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University located in my research unit.

Since 2005 I have headed the Research Unit Disease mechanisms, -markers and -prevention. In 2007 this group consists of 10 senior scientists, 4.0 researchers, 4 ph.d.-students, 11 technical staff. As Deputy Research Director I took part in all aspects of the professional and administrative duties in the department. Since 1 October 2007 I have had full responsibility as head of the Department of Animal Health, Welfare and Nutrition. The department includes approx. 210 staff members.

Special tasks

In 2001, I was the prime DIAS resource in establishing BIOSENS, a large research and development collaboration with a private company, Lattec I/S, and the Danish Cattle Research Centre (DCRC), a part of the Danish Milk and Livestock Federation owned and governed by the Danish cattle farmers’ organisations. In BIOSENS, DIAS collaborates with Lattec I/S and DCRC. I am a DIAS members on the board. We have initiated research and development in the area of: use of in-line measurements in milk for the development of biological control parameters for production and health management in the milk production.

Publications

My publication list comprises more than 290 titles (66 original papers and reviews in international refereed journals, 6 book chapters, 83 scientific abstracts and written contributions to international conferences, 26 abstracts and written contributions to National and Nordic conferences, 48 reports from the Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences, plus articles in agricultural magazines, non-agricultural magazines, newspapers and electronic publications).
