Laboratory technician from Dalum Technical School in Odense. From 1996 employed at National Institute of Agricultural Sciences in Foulum, now Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.
Since my employment at Dpt. of Genetics and Biotechnology I have worked with e.g. genotyping in pigs, cattle, sheep, fish, bees etc. The lab work includes various methods for purification of blood, semen and tissue samples from animals to DNA. This DNA is then used for several analyses, depending on the interest. Through PCR and sequencing analyses with subsequent data analyses genes can be identified, that are of interest in farm animal breeding. Examples are related to disease resistance, fertility and calving abilities.
My work as laboratory technician is primarily to have produced and analysed an huge amount of data to the scientists. For that I use the following methods/equipment:
- Infinium II assays, Porcine and bovine chips - BeadStation 500G
- VeraCode Goldengate Genotypning assays - BeadXpress Reader
- ABI PRISM 3730
